Microsoft Releases New System Center 2012 Service Packs that Add Some Windows 10 Support

Microsoft announced new service packs today for its Configuration Manager components of both System Center 2012 and System Center 2012 R2.

These service packs are adding "deployment, upgrade and management" capabilities for the Windows 10 client operating system, which currently is at the preview stage. However, they only support those capabilities for "existing features" of Windows 10, according to Microsoft's announcement.

This existing features point wasn't explained in Microsoft's announcement. It does echo a slide that was presented during an Ignite conference session earlier this month, though:

This chart shows that System Center Configuration Manager 2016 supports "new and existing functionality", while System Center Configuration Manager 2012 Service Pack 2 (SP2 2012 SCCM) and System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2 Service Pack 1 (SCCM 2012 R2 SP1) will only support "existing features."

A Microsoft spokesperson indicated via email that his next product, System Center Configuration Manager 2016 hit "general availability" in Q4, and will be regularly updated to support Windows 10. Probably, the product in 2016 will be the only way to manage "new" feature of Windows 10. This is how the spokesman explained that, although it is a bit 'dull: Microsoft will not provide support for the new features in Windows 10 with ConfigMgr 2012 or 2012 R2 (only app compatibility).
You'll need the next version of Configuration Manager that will be available in Q4, in order to handle the new functions of Windows 10 as EDP (Enterprise Data Protection). We have added support for select new capabilities in Windows 10 Configuration Manager Technical Preview that we released on May 4, during Ignite.

System Center 2016 Technical Preview 2 includes things like "better management of scale-out file servers" and "updates cluster mixed mode", among other things.

Microsoft has already indicated that its products would work with the existing SCCM supported Windows 10 client when the new operating system is released this summer. However, a recent company announcement also meant that there will be an update of the fall release of Windows 10 that will provide additional management and security features for the enterprise. Perhaps Microsoft is saying that new service packages announced today will support the fall of Windows 10 update ("Q4"), but it is not really clear.

Today's announcement of Microsoft System Center also directs downloader for its page Evaluation Center is for SCCM 2012 SP2 and SCCM 2012 R2 SP1 to get the new service packages. This approach to release bit "general availability" through the Assessment Centre has caused confusion in a Microsoft TechNet forum, as it was thought that these service packs are software testing only. However, according to Microsoft spokesman, these copies of the assessment can be used to switch to the full "general availability" release using a product key exists: Service packs are in general availability.

A customer can download the product evaluation on the evaluation Microsoft and then use their existing product key for the transition from evaluation to full product version. In addition, Microsoft is making available this service pack on the Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC) on May 27.

In addition, Microsoft promises that its MSDN subscribers will be able to get the bit of next week with the download page.

Highlights of the new System Center 2012 Service Pack include faster App-V publishing in non-persistent VDI scenarios. There are also scalability improvements for the points of distribution of shot. Microsoft has improved data transfers for connections that are slow or latent. He also added to SQL Server 2014 "native support."
